Only one vote per person

30 September, 2008 (22:14) | abroad, elections, federal states, political trade | By: Aerar

Following an article in heise online (german) there were problems again in connection with the so called “e-voting” (making votes by using a special computerterminal) in the communal election in Brandenburg. It seems that a problem was the dangerous blind confidence of the canvessers and their heads. Especially since the legendary “Nedap-Hack” (german) where an [...]

Absolute miss

29 September, 2008 (15:31) | elections, federal states | By: Aerar

It is done: Bayern has elected. Whole Bayern? Not really, a participation of about 58% of the electors is very low for a trend-setting election. And despite of the intense preliminary news coverage only about 1% more (compared to the last election) of the eligible voters had made their way to the ballot box. The [...]

Elect differently

26 September, 2008 (17:43) | abroad, elections | By: Aerar

Actually we have enough elections on our own and with the election in Bayern the next one is about to come this weekend already. But we can not totally ignore the election of the new president in the USA as the political future there will have deep impact on german politics as well.
If you ask [...]

The glass is only half full

21 September, 2008 (12:37) | elections, federal states | By: Aerar

That would be a problem not only for the Oktoberfest but as well in the coming elections in Bayern. We will see the results on September, 28th but recent polls indicate that the glass would be less than half full then. A result of 47% ist prognosticated for the CSU and the question of “50% [...]

Superflous Checking

19 September, 2008 (12:35) | homeland security | By: Aerar

You can still observe despaired people in the lines to the security checks at the airport who are trying to drink up their bottles of mineral water or limonade, which by security reasons is not allowed to be taken aboard. Other liquids such as drugs are fortunally not depleted but they have to end up [...]

You never go completely

16 September, 2008 (13:40) | media, particulars, political trade | By: Aerar

Kurt Beck has waited a long time, but on September, 7th he resigned from his post as leader of the SPD. Many felt that the boss has become the incarnation of the bad polls of the party and his picture in the public often was accordingly. In the end came the “Finishing shot for the [...]

Taxing commuters

15 September, 2008 (13:30) | finance | By: Aerar

Now it is time to show strength and to become unpopular. For there are polls (german) which strongly indicate a benevolent attitude towards tax-deductible amount for cars and there are articles (german) which name problems in disposing them. But this does not automatically mean that this tax reducing for driving to work would be a [...]

Lost in being beta

14 September, 2008 (14:57) | editorial | By: Aerar

I had to read an article (german) in Spiegel online which stated that political blogs in germany do not have much impact at all. The german political blog were quite irrelevant compared to it’s American archetypes, the article said. This seems not only be true (if not even understated) but also seems a good indicator, [...]

“Ära” is spelled without an “r” at the end

13 September, 2008 (20:35) | editorial | By: Aerar

That is correct. But the use of the german word “Ära” (”era” in english) might indicate that a new age would arise with this blog, which I doubt. Therefore the titel is related to “Ärar” (from latin: aerarium) which means the treasure (and in a way the abilities) of the country.
As well I would like [...]
